Synopsis
The story is about a college student Rahul (Prajwal Devaraj), who is a “Merit Student”, and is the College Top Student. He likes taking up challenges in life. During a motorbike race with Ajay (Thilak), Rahul sees a man being murdered by Pashupathi (Sharath Lohithaswa), a dreaded don in the city who has been hired by Giri Gouda, a minister. Rahul, together with his winnings from the race, gifts money he earns by singing in the street, for handicapped and orphan children. Shweta (Pragna) is the College Beauty, and when she and Rahul meet, it is love at first sight. This angers Ajay, who wants Shweta, and who is extremely jealous. Ajay and his friends attack Rahul one night, but Rahul successfully beats them off. Then one day, Monica, a student is found unconscious outside the college. She is taken to hospital, but dies as a result of taking drugs. Rahul then goes after the supplier of the drugs, Ajay and his associates. Ajay is arrested, and his father, Giri Gouda, and MLA, goes to bail him out, but is told by the ACP that his offence is non-bailable, and the ACP suggests to Ajay’s father that he arranges to have Rahul eliminated. The story continues with the battle between Rahul and the evil forces against him, with quite a few unexpected twists until it reaches a dramatic climax.

Review
I was surprised to read the poor reviews of this film. I thought it was excellent, showing, as so often in Indian films the battle between good and evil in all its forms. I have no criticism of the acting, in particular by the characters I have named in the synopsis. Prajwal Devaraj is a very believable as the good guy, just as Thilak is equally believable as the bad guy. Pragna is superb as the romantic heroine, and her performance in the song and dance routines, with Prajwal Devaraj is very natural and sincere. One critic described the music of the songs as “ordinary” – I don’t agree. Sharath Lohithaswa is excellent as the enigmatic character he is initially, then we gradually learn more about him, who he really is – this is well scripted.
My only criticism of the film, and this is minor, is the scenario behind the action of the closing sequence at the end of all the action – it does not quite make sense how everything was all there, but what happens to it all certainly makes a dramatic conclusion!
Songs:
“Chevvale” is a happy song, which features Rahul and eight of his male friends at first, till they are joined by others, singing about the romance he is looking forward to – a girl who is going to be caught in his net. Shweta features in the song. “Ommomme Ommomme” is a love song. Everyone is dressed in white, except for Rahul and Shweta, who wear a red sweater under an open white jacket. Then the colour of the outfits changes to black, then other colours. “Thumbane Thumbane” is another love song against a variety of different outdoor settings. The colours of costumes are mainly yellow and blue. “Ridhaiya!” is another love-song featuring Rahul and Shweta, in which we realise the significance of an earlier scene in the film. It is filmed at night, outdoors. “Rahya!” is another love song, filmed at night indoors.
The music and lyrics of all the songs are delightful, and well worth listening to again. We have a range of chreography, from the youthful exuberance of the students in the first three songs, to the tenderness of the last two.
